Gizmodo reports: “At last someone has developed a patch to expand the Apple TV’s storage through its USB 2.0 port, using the internal hard drive to boot and one fat external 2TB drive”…
Jump right to the instructions. (Update: Also see the USB patch on appletvhacks.)

I got a susses message from “turbo_kext_enabler” and the “kextload” but can’t see any new drive using “diskutil list”. I catch the extension files from the “MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9Intel.pkg” using “Pacifist”. I try two different USB HDs, the two HDs are partitioned in three HFS+ partitions. I use the “safe update” method to upgrade to version 1.1. I check and re-check the modes and ownerships. If someone have a hint I will appreciate.
Thanks anyway.

Hello, this is Luck from appletvhacks.net. Thanks for the wiki on how to enable USB. In case you didn’t know, Turbo (your main contributor) tested the code for the USB available on our site.
You mentioned at the end of the wiki that iTunes canno recognize any additional space available on the mounted drive. Our hack does work with iTunes and shows the additional space.
Maybe we can work together to simplify this hack and make it easier for mere mortals to follow.
