AppleTV plugin that plays movies
ericIII from the AwkwardTV crew has created a plugin for the AppleTV that, like Sabertooth’s plugin, hooks into the main ATV GUI. However, this one plays videos, and sports a (for now, hardcoded) list of .AVI files that are not located in the Media Library.
This proof of concept demonstrates just how (relatively) easy it is to make your custom player.

How you can play avi files ?
Because it’s impossible to put these files in itunes.
Did you put them directly on appleTV ?

Well you can’t add them to iTunes, but IIRC you can set up network drive alias on apple hd and tell it to mount every time it starts…I’m going to have a look around to find that, but I’m pretty sure that could be done. That would give access to the files without putting the files directly into iTunes or onto the aTV.
