The wait for Linux on Apple TV is nearly over

Gimli from the mactel-linux project announces that “the wait for Linux is almost over”. Since the Apple TV refuses to run third-party EFI executables, another way had to be found. The AwkwardTV Wiki collects more information.

According to Gimli the loader, kernel patch and instructions will released after some polishing, so stay tuned.

Update: Initial source code has beeen posted.

As much as I want this to be true, I am skeptical. I cannot image that such a hack would be retained for “some polishing.”

Additionally, the dmesg log indicates that an ICH6 chipset is being used, while we know that the AppleTV uses an ICH7 chipset. Strangely, it takes the kernel 53 seconds to load, a task that usually takes less than 5.
